Massage Modalities

Circulatory/Swedish: Designed to energize the body by vigorously manipulating soft tissue. A variety of techniques are used including kneading, rolling, vibration and percussion. The many benefits include general relaxation, breakdown of scar tissue and improved circulation.

Deep Tissue: Designed to breakdown the sub-layer of fascia and muscle. The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep tissue massage therefore deep tissue is often combined with other modalities. It helps with chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation and reduction of inflammation.

Tui Na: Tui means “to push” and Na means “to lift and squeeze.” This ancient form of Chinese manual therapeutics utilizes a variety of techniques ranging from light and smooth to strong and invigorating. It facilitates healing by regulating the flow of Qi and Blood throughout the body.

Pregnancy Massage: Many methods of bodywork can be effective and safe for women in the pregnancy months enhancing the physiological and emotional well-being of both fetus and mother.

Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy as a healing art has been used for centuries. The use of essential oils during massage, in oils and diffusers, aid in relaxation and improve circulation. Each of the 36 essential oils that I could possibly use during treatment has a specific physical, emotional and spiritual benefit.

Cupping: A vacuum is created in a glass cup using fire to deplete oxygen levels. The cups are then placed onto the area to be treated. Cupping helps to draw out and eliminate pathogenic factors such as wind, cold, damp and heat. It also moves qi and blood and opens the pores of the skin. This is not painful.

Gua Sha: This is a simple and ancient scraping technique. It is applied in acute illness to expedite resolution and also to prevent onset of illness. Gua Sha also resolves chronic pain and tension that might not be relieved from other treatments. Gua Sha becomes a relevant treatment for almost any presenting disorder.

Moxabustion: The herb used is called Artemisia Vulgaris. It is burned in various forms, directly or indirectly, over the area of treatment. It warms the body, expels cold, disperses damp, and moves qi and blood.
